In my last post I mentioned winter favors and how December, January and February offer great opportunities for being creative. The same can be said for the invitations. Wedding invitations are the first look into the theme of the wedding. If the wording is formal the guests will know to dress semi-formal or formal. If the wording is casual, they may still dress semi-formal; however, they’re more likely to dress casually.
The wording is not the only area where the mood is presented. The style of the invitation itself can be a way to convey the theme.

A more modern winter theme should be in solid colors with a very classic streamlined design. A blue background on heavy duty cardboard, with a white layered matte and a top card is perfect for modern themes.

For a classy, elegant wedding, all white, or white and silver, are beautiful. Silver typeface on a stark white or cream colored invitation back is very sophisticated.

Winter invitation colors don’t have to be only blue, silver and white; red is a lovely color as well. Reds are especially beautiful during January and February, and befitting a Valentine theme. Along with red, brown and gold are perfectly matched to the Holidays which all fall during the winter months.

A lot of people don’t hold a lot of sway in wedding favors. However, I think it’s a great way for the wedding couples to thank their guests for being a part of their special day. Different cultures have given a form of wedding favor for centuries. In fact, the almond sachets, which many guests receive to this day, are the oldest known wedding favor.

Winter time brings a unique opportunity to give really special favors based on the time of year. A wedding in December offers the opportunity for some cool ideas.

An ornament with the wedding date printed in glitter is a great way to thank the guests for attending. Wrap it up like a present in box to make it stand out prettily on the wedding tables.
An all white candy assortment is another idea that fits in the theme. White candy coated almonds in a white sachet with a silver ribbon also fits with a December wedding.

For a January wedding, the perfect wedding favor is a mini bottle of champagne. Be sure to include some non-alcoholic brands for the children and young adults.

Late January and February offers the opportunity of a Valentine’s theme and couples can give small candy hearts and even little heart cookie cutters.

It’s the rare times in life when a woman gets to be a princess from head to toe. The wedding day is one of those days. There are literally thousands of different accessories for a bride to wear. Tiaras, veils, shoes, scarves, bows, sashes, bolero jackets, necklaces, earrings and on and on; there is a never ending array of merchandise from which to choose.

The best place to find a lot of the hair and jewelry accessories is EBay. I’ve found almost everything that a bride needs is on that site. Coincidentally, that site is also one of the most inexpensive. The benefits of shopping there are twofold. First, brides can choose from vendors that others have rated. Secondly, with all the competition side by side, making the cheapest choice is the much easier.

Veils are a little easier to choose. There are different lengths, colors, styles and fabrics used when making veils. The fabrics can vary from silk to tulle and even lace. Some veils can be made with ribbon around the edges or small rhinestones on the entirety of the veil. Veils can be made with headbands or tiaras and can vary in length from mid short to floor length. They can even have tiers and layers. You can find great veils at bridal shops that specialize in bridal clothing, rather than online.

A wedding comes once in a couple’s lives. It’s crucial for it to be as perfect as possible. While it doesn’t have to be absolutely perfect (believe me, it won’t be), detailed planning will bring it to as close to perfection that’s required. One problem that brides and grooms are unaware of is that flowers aren’t always available year round, and some that can be bought out of season can be outrageously expensive.

If you’re planning on red bouquets, you’ll want to mix right reds with the right secondary colors; especially if there is a special theme. The wrong colors send the wrong message. The right colors give the right presentation. For example, white and red roses can look modern or romantic depending on the way they’re arranged in a vase and mixed with baby’s breath or ribbon. Red wedding bouquets mixed with Callas are perfect for a modern theme.

All different kinds of flowers blossom throughout the year, but wintertime is a great time for unique types of wedding flowers. Holly and garland can be used. Poinsettias are a beautiful flower and very rare to see in a wedding decorations. It’s a great idea to talk to florists before planning the color and type of flowers you’ll want. Couples may be surprised about how much certain flowers cost in winter.

Of all the dresses, sashes, tiaras, jewelry, tuxes and other clothing, one thing brides should never skimp on is the shoes. The typical wedding day starts out with a bride on her feet getting all her clothes together. The day is then spent checking with florists, stylists, caterers and all the last minute details for the wedding. The ceremony is spent standing for hours. There is dancing, schmoozing and lots more standing at the reception. With all the standing, dancing and walking around, nearly 8 hours of it, it’s important not to skimp on the shoes.

Shoes are not only a pretty accent to the clothes for the bride, groom and bridesmaids. They are a central and important part of the wedding. They support the wedding party during a very long time while they’re on their feet.

Wedding shoes don’t need to be expensive to be well made and supportive. There are also a plethora of inexpensive wedding shoes that are beautiful and very elegant. Shopping online is a great way to save money on the shoes and find exactly the color and style needed. Remember that unlike summer and spring weddings, winter weddings are a perfect time to invest in an ankle boot.

The beautiful dresses that are available to the winter bride are so bountiful that it’s hard to figure why so many couples choose other times to get married. Not only are the gorgeous dresses made of velvet, satin, silk and lace, plentiful, but they’re up against the white backdrop of winter. In the winter, it’s almost necessary to choose a bold color for either the bride or bridesmaids. Red, black, blue or even pink look exceptional in snow covered areas. The play of white against color will look very exceptional.

Winter brides get the opportunity wear velvet and capes. The perfect princess cap with white faux fur trimmed hood and hem will look amazing over a strapless dress. It will also keep you warm. Velvet is so perfect a fabric for winter that in the Renaissance days, the noblemen and women wore it consistently throughout the winter months. It’s beautiful and soft and so perfect for a bride looking to be special on her wedding day. Choosing a red velvet dress can be even lovelier.

It’s unimportant whether the bride chooses white, black, red or pink for her gown. Fabrics also don’t matter. The great thing about a winter wedding dress is it has no boundaries. Brides can even choose to wear shorter dresses. Etiquette shouldn’t dictate a wedding of your dreams, unless you choose it to do so.

Everyone has a different and special idea when it comes to decorating their wedding. Many people settle for flowers because they haven’t been presented with any unique ideas. There are hundreds of other styles of centerpieces that have nothing to do with flowers. For winter weddings there are even more choices.

Ice sculpture busts of the bride and groom are a really sweet and unique idea. Alternatively, intertwined rings or hearts are another idea of sculptures. Cupid, music notes or anything which is unique to the couple’s interests or where they met, are other things which can be sculpted from ice.

Punch bowls with bright red wine punch and slices of fruit are a unique centerpiece. Punchbowls can be found for as little as 30$ a piece, including glass. Along with the color, your guests will have their own little edible centerpiece.

In winter, the edible fruit centerpieces are a great idea. Some beautiful fruits for a green and red wedding theme are apples, pears and green grapes.

Weddings in winter often use brown as a theme color, in that case chocolate sculptures, fountains and fondue pots are all cute and fun ideas for a wedding centerpiece.

Winter wedding centerpieces are incredibly beautiful and have the opportunity to be truly unique.

A wedding is a huge endeavor into the world of fashion and design. Couples must put together the perfect colors which work with all the different parts of the wedding.

Between the wedding dress, tux, bridesmaid dresses and groomsmens’ outfits, there are hundreds of decisions to make and each must work with everything else. It’s not an easy task, which is why most couples hire wedding planners. However, if couples are planning their own styles, it’s still a possibility with some help from fabric stores.

There are two ways to go if you’re planning on an offbeat color, like a red wedding theme. Since you’ll need to pick the perfect shades of dresses, or the colors will clash, visit a fabric store and check out colors together. Be sure to put large swatches of fabrics together and not just small colors. The second option is to check into local design schools and get some of their color books. The first option works best for couples that need a very visual representation of the colors. The second works well for couples who need instruction.

If you haven’t worked with a lot of fabrics and styles, it’s a little more difficult, but still doable. If you’re wary of choosing the styles yourselves, I encourage you to hire a stylist.

As mentioned in my last post, the trick to wedding planning is to get there later. Meaning winter weddings are perfect for saving money and getting the ideal event center. The event center isn’t the only part of a winter wedding where people can save money. Having a wedding in winter gives a bride the opportunity to get a wedding dress at a great price.

Wedding dresses can be any shape, size, length or cut a bride wants, even in winter. The great thing about a winter wedding is that the designers and vendors all have lower prices during this time to sell off past season stock and make way for new stock. Additionally, the seamstresses have more free time to work in the off season, so the bride will not only get cheap results, they’ll be faster as well.

Winter wedding dresses can be in any color, and in fact, red wedding dresses are in keeping with the holiday spirit of some weddings during December. Since red is a popular color for weddings, and now a popular color for dresses, brides can find a wide variety and shades to match their complexion. It’s a win-win situation for the vendors, bride and seamstresses alike.

Winter weddings are always a great choice for the bride looking to be beautiful, and as a bonus, save money on the wedding. Winter months are great times to save money on weddings because the companies are less busy and event centers are less booked. This means these companies want your business.

It’s important to keep the date from being near or on Christmas Day, if you want to save money. It’s also a great idea to avoid New Years Eve. However, New Years Day might be a better option. Almost all other days the couple will be able to find event centers with free days during the off season. The off season starts in November and goes until May. From May to the end of October, weddings are booked to capacity and sometimes, in June, event centers must be reserved 1-2 years in advanced

Off season prices can vary by as much as 75%. Getting an event center for a few hours during the summer or spring months can cost as much as $1000, but that same event center can cost $500 in winter. The difference is the demand.

When wedding planning, saving money on one part means being able to invest more money into things like decorations, clothing and flowers. And what girl doesn’t want to spend more on her wedding dress?
